The Dread Gazebo
By Brushtail

There once was a hero so brave and so noble
He valiantly vanquished many a foe
But one day he met his match to defeat him
He foolishly took on the dread gazebo.

With his glittering blade he slashed and he stabbed
Not a point of damage did the building take!
He attacked it so fiercely he seemed almost rabid,
But no a single banister did our hero break.

He fought all the day and into the evening
The sun was sinking, he thought he should go.
When just as he was turning and leaving
He finally received a response from his foe.

Though light of foot and quick of limb,
Our hero stood not a chance it would seem.
The Gazebo turned out to be quicker than he was,
And violently skewered the man on a beam!

He was quickly devoured.
Or so the stories say,
Slain in his prime by a terrible monster,
He could not fight it, or run away.

Though my tail is tragic and dreadfully scary
All will assure it’s completely true,
But as long as you have a good vocabulary
This horrible fate need not happen to you.

Author's Comments

There is a widely known story of a gamer who when confronted with a Gazebo attacked it not knowing what it was. the DM becoming so frustrated, had him killed and eaten. Having heard this story I composed a Ballad recounting the epic battle. The hero's name is lost to time, though it might ave been Eric.

Having done a bit of research I found reference to the gazebo being white, and in a garden, not a clearing, but I'd already done the illustration, and thought I would just let this be a warning to do your research before your illustrations, not after.

Fantastic. Just Fantastic. We should preform this at a fair sometime. The illustration made all the more wonderful.

Why Eric?

Never send Japanese people to do a Texan's job
You don't go poking people in the heart! It's the height of rude!
The pie of anger does not work on the perpetually cheerful
:iconbrushtail-thegreat:
that's the name that came up in the research, but there was no proof if that was actually his name or not.
